Students will log onto their kidblog account and write a reflection to this question. "What have a learned from my research guide and How will I keep myself safe online?"
Set up teacher and student accounts and practice using blogs and LiveBinder
Divide students in groups of 6 for a total of 3 groups.
Pass out KWL chart. Activate prior knowledge by asking students “What is Our Place in the World?” and “How Do We All Fit Together?” Fill in the “K” section of KWL chart-Discuss and talk about what students already know about collaborating with other schools, their community, and demographics.
Fill in the “W” section of KWL chart-Discuss and talk about what the students want to know about our community leaders and other industry leaders. Discuss what questions the students would like to ask these leaders in our communities and others.
Collaborate and discuss KWL charts with other schools using the media chosen by students (i.e. Blogs and LiveBinder). Provide comments and suggestion for each post. If time does not permit, the students may continue their post and discussions at home with adult supervision from parents.
Let students know that the community leaders have already been chosen and the interviews will be on Day 3 and 4.
The three groups will use computers/laptops, or iPads to research the three community leaders.
Each group will have a leader to research. The group that has the leader that is not in their community will also use LiveBinder/Skype to collaborate with leader.
At the end of the day, the students will discuss and combine information about their leaders in their individual groups. The groups will make a list of questions for their leaders (i.e. schools demographical information, community happenings and involvements, etc…). Post questions on Blog and provide comments and suggestions to each other’s post. If time does not permit, the students may continue their post and discussions at home with adult supervision from parents.
Day 4 Interview with Community Leaders
The first and second group of students will ask questions and record comments using a Flip Camera.
After the first two leaders (Mr. Malcolm Thomas and Mrs. Marie Young) the third community leader from Alabama will be presented by using Skype.
The students will end the day by discussing their interviews with other students and their community leaders using blogs and LiveBinder. If time does not permit, the students may continue their post and discussions at home with adult supervision from parents.
Homework-With the help from parents, each group will combine their interviews and turn in a script with questions and answers using Microsoft Word. Print the document and turn in as a group.
Day 5-Final Project
The students will complete the “L” part of the KWL.
Each student will turn in a KWL chart.
Each group will turn in a Word document of their combined interviews.
Each student will complete a check list of group collaboration

Day 1-Internet Safety/Introduce the Collaborative Unit
- Students will complete the internet safety questionnaire by working through the linked webquest (formative assessment)
- Students will take and pass online internet safety quiz (summative assessment)
